Types of Chemical Face Peels
Chemical peels are a non-invasive procedure that can rejuvenate and heal your skin. They can be performed on various areas of the body, with one of the most common areas being the face. Chemical peels also vary in intensity. At our Fort Lauderdale cosmetic surgeon’s office, we provide three different types of chemical face peels. For this reason, we wanted to provide some information on what each procedure entails and which may be best suited to achieve the results you are looking for.
What Are the Different Types of Chemical Peels?
Our experienced cosmetic surgeon, Dr. Zoran Potparic, offers three types of chemical peels that vary in intensity. We offer a light, an intermediate, and a deep chemical peel. Each of these three differs in the amount of penetration and healing of the skin, and each addresses different areas you may be looking to correct.
Light Chemical Peels
A light chemical peel, also known as a glycolic peel, addresses issues in the top layer of skin and is used to treat aging and sun exposure light effects, treating fine wrinkles and brown spots. While only penetrating the top layer of skin, a glycolic peel will give your face a healthy, fresh feeling and glow. For some individuals, one peel will do the trick, while others require multiple peels.
A light chemical peel can provide a rejuvenated, youthful glow or treat minor aging, sun-related skin issues, and light scarring resulting from acne.
Remember that this procedure only involves the top layer of skin. Recovery time takes about a day, with the procedure lasting anywhere from twenty to thirty minutes.
Intermediate Chemical Peels
Intermediate peels penetrate further into the skin, and as a result, can provide more drastic benefits. Normally, we utilize trichloroacetic acid to penetrate past the superficial layers of skin, allowing for the amelioration of wrinkles, blemishes, and any pigmentation issues you may wish to correct.
Since this procedure calls for various layers of the skin to heal, recovery time takes about two weeks. If you are looking to treat heavy acne scarring, deeper wrinkles, blemishes, and issues in pigmentation, an intermediate chemical peel may be right for you.
Deep Chemical Peels
A deep chemical peel, also known as a phenol peel, is utilized in patients with severely damaged skin or deep wrinkles. We reserve this procedure for special cases only, as recovery time can take up to twelve weeks. Additionally, patients will have to be sheltered from sun exposure during this time, which is fairly difficult near our South Florida office.
A phenol peel addresses blotchy hyperpigmentation and both fine and deep wrinkles. This treatment is most effective in lighter-skinned patients, as it may produce unwanted pigmentation in those with a darker complexion.
Scheduling Your Chemical Peel
While there are various do-it-yourself chemical peels, we strongly recommend visiting a specialist, as incorrect placement can result in scarring and skin damage.
Our offices have over three decades of experience in cosmetic procedures, including lip enhancements, liposuction, body contouring, and more. Contact us today to schedule an appointment with Fort Lauderdale’s best plastic surgeon.
