RHINOPLASTY – NOSE SURGERY

A 31 year-old Boca Raton cosmetic surgery patient wanted correction of her nose and improved breathing. She had frequent nose allergies since she moved to South Florida; stuffed nose and difficulties with breathing when she exercise.

Clinical examination demonstrated small nose hump which gives impression of a “parrot peak” due to overgrown nose cartilages in the area just above the nose tip (left). Examination of her internal nose and air passage demonstrated a moderate nasal septum deviation and enlarged turbinates. It is well known that frequent episodes of nose allergies can create condition known as a nasal obstruction in particular if they are associated with “airway deformity” in this case septal deviation and enlarged turbinate’s. Patient underwent external septo-rhinoplasty (open nose surgery with correction of septum deviation) and turbinectomies(enlargement of nose passage with partial removal of swollen-thickened nose lining- mucosa).

In her postoperative image (right) she is 2 years after surgery. Her nose is in nice balance with her forehead, lips and chin. Notice how her “parrot peak nose deformity” is corrected with a tip cartilage grafts to support and elevate nose tip. Cartilage grafts are made of a cartilage that is removed from nose septum in order to correct septum deformity and airway obstruction. Her breathing in effort (exercise) has improved significantly.
