CORRECTIVE NOSE SURGERY
Secondary deformities after nose surgery frequently require more complex reconstruction then initial nose surgery. This patient had rhinoplasty (nose shaping surgery) done 10 years ago elsewhere. This left him with an unattractive scar and deformity of the tip and left side of the nose. He came to our plastic surgery office in Fort Lauderdale for consultation and eventual correction of the nose deformity.
After careful analysis we concluded that he will need a multistage approach (2-3 surgeries) to gradually improve and correct current scar deformity.
In the first surgery, which was done in twilight anesthesia, we harvested cartilage graft from patient’s ear and placed it in the tip of the nose to improve tip symmetry. Portion of the cartilage graft was crushed and placed underneath the scar on the left side of the nose to correct the groove. Second surgery was done 6 months later; it included placement of small amount of fat grafts between cartilage grafts and skin.
Images of the patient on the left side demonstrate nose deformity before surgical correction. On the right patient is shown 2 years after corrective nose surgery.
