MALE BREAST SURGERY - GYNECOMASTIA 145

This 63-year-old businessman from Miami area presents to our office requesting consult regarding male breast shaping surgery. He is very unhappy with the size of his breasts. Despite of the fact that he lost about 25 pounds recently size of his breast did not change significantly. He wanted to find out about surgical solution for this problem.

After clinical evaluation in our plastic surgery office in Fort Lauderdale was completed we discussed options for treatment of gynecomastia. In our practice this includes removal of redundant fat and breast tissue aggressively with liposuction plus removal of redundant skin if needed.  Residual breast skin will shrink to a certain degree after aggressive liposuction but not all, in particular in his age. For that reason we discussed option of skin reduction creating a scar around and underneath the nipple. He decided to try breast liposuction first and if he turns to be unhappy with skin shrinking he may opt for a second breast surgery.

After medical clearance in general anesthesia we performed gynecomastia reduction surgery using an aggressive liposuction technique. He was sent home accompanied with his wife 1 hour after surgery was completed. He was placed in supportive compressive garment (vest) for 3-4 week. He was allowed to take it off to shower but he was encouraged to wear it around the clock. He was back to work in 5 days.

There is still mild breast deformity left; patient was encouraged to lose another 15-20 lbs. which will no doubt further improve his appearance. Additional body contouring by means of body liposuction including abdomen and flanks was discussed as well.
