BREAST RECONSTRUCTION WITH FLAP AND FAT GRAFTS 260

This 47-years old patient from Fort Lauderdale was scheduled to have simple mastectomy for treatment of right breast cancer. She came to us to discuss options of breast reconstruction with her own tissue to avoid implant reconstruction.

After detailed clinical evaluation and consultation with breast oncologist and breast surgeon we decided to perform immediate right breast reconstruction using her back muscle (latissimus dorsi flap).

After general surgeon completed mastectomy including removal of the nipple/areola plastic surgeon proceeded with reconstruction. A portion of the back latissimus dorsi muscle was harvested with a small island of skin and abundant fat tissue and transferred to reconstruct right breast mound. Portion of the skin island was used for creation of nipple/areola.

Patient is shown before breast mastectomy and reconstructive surgery on the left; on the right she is shown 6 months after immediate breast reconstruction with her own tissue. On the last image she is shown 1.5 years after breast, nipple/areola reconstruction. Additional right breast shaping and augmentation to achieve good symmetry with opposite breast was done with fat grafting of the right breast. Nipple/areola complex was treated with tattoo.
