FACELIFT PROCEDURE DETAILS

In general, this procedure involves tightening the deep layer of facial and neck muscles and fat compartments, as well as re-draping the overlying skin. It also involves removing fat deposits that create jowls and sit under the chin, followed by contouring. Sometimes volume replacement is needed. This is achieved by injecting fat grafts or soft tissue fillers into cheeks, lips, and deep wrinkles. Dr. Potparic can perform both procedures at the same time in his on-site AAAA-accredited ambulatory surgical center.

WHAT SIGNS OF AGING DOES A FACELIFT CORRECT?

Signs of aging include:

• Loss of muscle tone in the face and neck, which may create jowls and neck bands
• Sagging in the midface and lower face
• Deep creases below the lower eyelids and cheeks
• Fat deposits in the neck and along the lower jaw line
• Loss of volume (fat) in the face, cheeks, and around the eyes
• Loose skin and excess fatty deposits under the chin and jaw, which can create the appearance of a double chin and/or turkey neck, even in someone of average weight

FACELIFT WITH SMAS

A full facelift involves mid-face, lower face and neck rejuvenation. Dr. Potparic removes excess fat deposits from the neck, under the chin and jowls by a combination of liposuction and direct excision with scissors, then tightens loose muscle in the middle of the neck to create a sharp angle between the lower jaw, chin and neck.

He pulls facial muscles (SMAS) up and back in order to improve the jaw line, lift the cheeks, and increase fullness around the eyes. Additionally, the doctor pulls superficial muscles of the neck back and up to further contour the neck.

The procedure next calls for the skin of the face and neck, which was separated from muscles, to be gently pulled up and back and draped over the tightened muscles, followed by conservative removal of excess skin.

The face/neck lift scar is placed in the crease in front of the ear and in the groove behind the ear, and a short scar is placed below the chin. These scars generally heal well and become difficult to notice after one year. Until scars completely mature (6 to 12 months), they can be successfully covered with makeup.

In order to improve lost facial volume in selected patients, Dr. Potparic uses fat grafting or dermal filler injections. Fat grafts are typically injected with a small cannula into the cheeks and along the junction between cheeks and the lower eyelids where deep grooves are present. Both lower and upper lips (deep muscles) are injected with fat to increase their fullness. An injection of fat graft or fillers softens deep grooves around the mouth (nasolabial fold and marionette lines).

Many facelift patients, who come to our practice from Boca Raton and other nearby communities, frequently opt to have other procedures, such as forehead lift (browlift) and eyelid surgery, performed in addition to face/neck lift.

    FACELIFT IN FORT LAUDERDALE

Dr. Potparic performs mini facelifts on select patients to ensure facial characteristics are balanced and proportioned.

The midface lift rejuvenates the center of the face from the corners of the eyes to the sides of the mouth. The procedure involves lifting underlying muscles and deep fat compartments over the cheek bones to improve the fullness of the cheeks. It also improves the deep groove around the mouth (nasolabial fold) to a minor degree. The result may be further improved with the addition of fat grafts and/or fillers.

The lower face and neck lift can help to reduce sagging jowls and sagging in the neck by repositioning and tightening the neck muscles. Fat deposits are removed from under the chin, the skin of the neck and lower face is tightened and excess skin is removed.

A limited scar facelift will usually result in a shorter scar in front and behind the ears, with or without an additional scar below the chin.

Candidates for a mini facelift are usually younger patients with limited deformity, minimal volume loss, and minimal excess of skin.
